Lately, I’ve been feeling much like Melanie Griffith’s character in Working Girl. I’ve been chewing on all sorts of ideas, jotting them down with fervor as soon as they come to me. It’s taken some time, but I have a vision for how I’d like to see this site play out in 2012.
It might be premature, but I want to share a bit of that vision with you because honestly, it’s really difficult for me to keep it to myself. So here goes…Cville Fashion is getting a makeover over the next month or two. It’s going to align more with my original vision for the site. Blogging is tough when you’re starting out and while I’m proud of what I’ve done on the site, it’s a little more scattered than I’d intended. So coming soon, there will be certain things that are consistent and recurring:
- A store directory for all women’s and men’s apparel in Charlottesville. This is currently being developed, and while I’m starting with apparel and mostly physical locations, I see it extending to beauty, local artisans and Etsy sellers too.
- A monthly “magazine issue” and newsletter. Not in the printed form, but in a tree-friendly online version. I love my readers, and my intent is to keep you happy with attention-grabbing articles and events each month, and (for subscribers) coupons.
- Even more of a local focus. This was my intent from the beginning. I especially want to highlight this in the monthly newsletter so that you can get to know local shop owners, designers, and others who have an influence on fashion in Charlottesville. Locally-owned stores will be highlighted in the directory. Ad space will be available exclusively to stores found in town. Blog posts will be more directly tied to Charlottesville. (Many of them have been all along, but the focus will be increased.)
- Services. I love helping out our local boutiques and fashion-lovers, and have some ideas in mind for you. This will come later after the site has relaunched (one thing at a time, ya know), but feel free to chat with me now so we can begin brainstorming.
Some of my national readers may ask themselves, “What does this have to do with me? Maybe I like Dana’s random Polyvore posts!” Well, you’re getting a new site too, which should (*crossing fingers*) launch later this winter.
What do you think about the vision for Cville Fashion? Exciting news? I’m excited.
P.S. – If you’re a local store owner and have some ideas, or just want to help with the re-launch of this site, please contact me. I’d love to hear from you!

I love the ideas you have for a “remodeled” blog. I grew up in Cville and live in Richmond now. I still visit Cville several times a month to see my parents and love to shop there. Looking forward to seeing what you do!
This is all really exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing everything!
Thanks Jen! I’m glad to have people excited along with me!

Cville has so many great places to shop! Stay tuned
Exciting stuff!
Yes, yes it is
Good luck with the remodel Dana; and I love your Working Girl enthusiasm. I particularly like when you mention shops and events that are tied to a charity – like Scarpa’s bring a pair of gently used shoes… and Happy Holidays!!
Thanks Chris! Your feedback is always great. I definitely want to continue spreading the news on charity events. Thanks for being such a avid reader – stick around, I think there are a lot of good things in store.
So excited to see what you come up with, Dana! I’m sure it’ll be great!
Thanks Brookelyn! I saw you changed your site’s design, too – looking good!
